“What we learned doing this project is that a lot of people are not represented in breast cancer media. Although the incidence rate of breast cancer is 4% lower among Black women than White women, Black women are 41% more likely to die from the disease, according to the American Cancer Society. Breast cancer is less common among Asian women than in other ethnic or racial groups, but the disease is the most commonly diagnosed cancer. Eshaana Sheth was 27 when she was diagnosed with hormone receptor positive breast cancer in 2019. Breast cancer is hormone receptor positive when cancer cells have receptors — which the National Cancer Institute describes as binding proteins within the cell — that attach to progesterone or estrogen.

Alas, they’ve come a little too close to that with “The Regime,” a political satire that’s weird but not very good, other than savoring Winslet’s over-the-top antics as an autocratic leader. When the story begins, Vernham is already engaging in odd behavior that leaves her ministers (who assemble in “Dr. Matthias Shoenaerts and Kate Winslet in "Regime." Lustily sneering her dialogue in an exaggerated accent, Winslet throws her all into the character, but to what end? She was “one of several TSA canines who worked at Super Bowl LVII in Phoenix” back in February, according to a TSA news release. Dr. Taylor and her team studied two species of jumping spiders commonly found in Florida — the regal jumping spider, or Phidippus regius, and Habronattus trimaculatus. The researchers placed two termites of each cape variety in a petri dish with a jumping spider and recorded which termite the spiders looked at and which they ended up attacking.

When Anthony Davis’s opera “X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X,” which is currently being revived at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, premiered in the mid-1980s, it seemed like a radical act of elevation: The opera lent grand pathos to the story of Malcolm X by giving his life the arc of a tragic hero. And at that moment, Malcolm X was a hero, achieving a grandeur on the world stage in death beyond what he had achieved in life. As a proud member of Generation X, I witnessed firsthand the iteration of Malcolm X that exploded into popular culture during the 1980s and 1990s, peaking with Spike Lee’s virtuosic 1992 biopic, “Malcolm X.” By 1999, Malcolm X’s resurgence (remember “X” hats?) meant that his image had become mainstream enough — and safe enough — to be placed on a postage stamp. But when we revisit him, we may find we encounter, and even crave, a Malcolm X who is not omniscient, and who would not seem destined for a postage stamp, but one who dwells in an ambiguous world of doubt.
